New iPhone Alert!
iPhone 5 fever is likely to grip the world mid 2012 if rumours are to be believed about the hotly anticipated next release. Super.
Everyone who knows me knows how much I love gadgets and the extent by which I bore people with discussions on the onslaught of technology. So I’ve decided to bore you with a post about the next iPhone.
I love my iPhone4 and it still looks as good as it did the day it arrived new in its lovely box. But like all gadget geeks I look forwards to the next model. And like many owners of the iPhone 4, I didn’t bother upgrading to the iPhone 4s. I have no doubt that the last offering from Apple is superior to my model, but I didn’t feel that I was gaining enough not to wait for the iPhone 5. I am stating the obvious. It means that when the iPhone 5 is released it will cause the usual high stress to everyone who wants it in a hurry. Apple will no doubt limit the supply of the iPhone 5 and make us all wait.
Kids in a toy shop syndrome.
So what is it that we’ll be acting like kids in a toyshop for?
A bit of research on the internet seems to reveal that the new model will be 4G compatible, thought this is of no use to anyone in the UK which is behind in such matters. It is likely to boast a slightly larger screen at 4 inches and utilise flash memory. And of course Apple will probably upgrade the camera, video capabilities and all the usual stuff. Blah, blah, blah.
Let’s face it, anyone could say the same thing before every release of any smart phone – a small improvement here and another tweak there.
More innovation please…
What I would hope for from apple is another step forward on the innovation front. There’s a bunch of things that I would love to see on the next iPhone.
So here goes…
Personally I would like to see a stereo speaker system that becomes stereo when the phone is turned landcape. I mean – why not?
A stereo microphone would be handy too. These hardly require cutting edge technology but it would seriously appeal to many people who see these as current flaws in the iPhone. Also this could mean that the unit could be used as a phone in any orientation.
Apple has been a little slow in the 3D department with other smart phones shooting in 3D. Most TVs now sold are 3D ready and I would certainly love the option to take family snaps and video in 3D.
An IR transmitter would be a low tech addition that would turn my smart phone into a controller for all my household appliances and gadgets. Apps could emulate controllers and provide the correct signals for various remote control units. If this IR Lamp was powerful it could be used to film video in near darkness.
A warm the LED lamp fitted. Because I hate the bright white LED lamp and as a flash it is too cold and ruins photos.
Okay, lets get ambitious.
The screen could be 3D. Groovy- If Nintendo can do it…
Laser projection technology could easily be incorporated into the device, though I appreciate that such a feature may be a drain on the battery.
So these are just a few of my own ideas, I’m sure other people have dreamed up some even better innovations to include on the next generation iPhone. I hope Apple has.
The operating system is likely to be an improved iOS6 which is still about 6 months off for general release and I doubt Apple will bring out an iPhone 5 until that is ready.
Anyway, that’s my bit about the iPhone 5.
But the most important thing, really, is does it look and feel good? It’s the reason I prefer Apple over the competitors. They still lead the way in design – by a long way.
